Though Governor’s Island is considered part of Manhattan, it couldn’t be further from the city’s vibe. It’s relaxed, clean, generally quiet and no cars are allowed. And you can’t beat the views of downtown Manhattan. It’s just stunning.
The last time I rode a bike was just about a year ago, so I was a little bit shaky for the first 20-30 minutes. I almost ran over three small children on three separate occasions. And it happened on the same damn hill each and every time! After the third kid intentionally ran in front of my bike, I figured it was the universe’s way of telling me to steer clear of that hill. I considered myself warned and never looked back.
It’s quite nice to get away from the hustle and bustle and just ride with that delicious salty breeze blowing in your face. It’s even nicer to ride when you don’t have to worry about a cab running you over from behind.
