the perks of staying in while hurricane irene is blowing outside your door

While I was holed up in the house waiting for hurricane Irene’s arrival, I found myself in productive maniac mode.  Because there was no way I was going to spend the entire weekend at home and not accomplish something. Hurricane be damned, I took back my weekend!

Stocked up on some berry SoyJoys for good ol’ nonperishable snacking.
I finally got around to cleaning my makeup brushes. It’s been an embarrassingly long time since I’ve done this. And yes, that’s tape holding them to the drawer (hanging them upside-down is the only way to dry them effectively!).
I managed to make a toasted marshmallow milkshake before the power went out (for 12 very long hours). Whew, glad I got my fix just in time.

Rummaging through some old storage bins brought me back to the ’90s! I found some old-school cassette tapes that I used to blast on my boombox when I first started to get into music. TLC’s What About Your Friends single was my very first tape. Do you remember yours?

This huge spring cleaning (or end-of-summer cleaning?) proved to be the most therapeutic cleanse. I ended up finding bags I haven’t used in years and some clothes that I knew I was never going to miss. Which meant it was time to let them go.

Caught up on some reading, one of my favorite activities, hurricane or not.

A night in isn’t the same without an intense game of Scrabble (or three).

I pretty much lived in my comfy sweats all last weekend (and that’s not such a bad thing).

Did you manage to get out? And did you east-coasters manage to successfully survive Irene?

I wish I was half as productive – I want my weekend back! Atleast I don't have to go into work until 11….

Fortunately I live in the part of town that doesn't flood AND somehow the power didn't go out, but the other end of town wasn't so fortunate and had to be evacuated on boats.

I have old whitney houston, mariah carey and janet jackson cassette tapes :) Man, it was so annoying to fast forward and rewind to get to the desired track!

Oooo…and what a clever way to hang make-up brushes!

Thankfully Nothing to much came from Irene. I'm not on the east coast – so no crazyness happened with me.

Thank you everyone for your concerns! am doing well and thankfully, everyone I know is as well.

Ashley – I always hated that about cassette tapes! Thank goodness for the invention of CDs and MP3s.

You make being trapped indoors during a hurricane super fabulous. Your weekend was a lot more enjoyable than mine, and I had gorgeous weather. Ha.

That toasted marshmallow milkshake looks like nirvana, and I heart SoyJoys!

I usually just let my makeup brushes sit to dry…I'll have to dry your method, which seems to be the most sensible.

I cannot remember my first cassette tape for the life of me, but it was either Mariah Carey or the Space Jam soundtrack.

And I haven't sat down to play a board game of any kind in a long while. How depressing…

I lost power for 7 days and I'm catching up on my blog reading now… for some reason I was expecting all the East Coasters to be out of commission too but it looks like I was alone in this! I played a lot of Scrabble too… and read several books. As soon as the laundromat got electricity I went there to read and watch TV… now all my sheets and blankets are nice and clean for when the fall weather comes! haha
