friday!

  • although i wish i could, i can’t take credit for these.  my boyfriend took them. aside from food pictures, i like shots like these best. action shots.  when no one is paying attention to you.  and you’re free to click away.

  • just a few days ago, i found out that vanilla extract doesn’t expire (this was very exciting news for me, by the way).  check out 10 foods that can outlive you.  and while we’re at it, have you ever wondered how long dried spices will stay good for?  find out here.

  • a mother wrote this blog post about how she thinks she loves her son more than her daughter.  needless to say, it’s been causing a commotion around the web.  i’m not a parent, so i can’t even begin to understand or judge this but i’m shocked she had the nerve to tie her name to this!  one part of me thinks, wow that’s really messed up!  another part of me thinks, do most parents feel like they have a “favorite” (whether they show it or not)? maybe she’s being brave in her honesty? i don’t know.  read it and let me know what you think! don’t forget to read the comments people left her.  provocative stuff!

  • and on a lighter note, i love just skimming through the pictures on this blog.  charming and glamorous.

  • happy weekend to you!

    Happy weekend to you!

Going to read the post the mom wrote now. Before reading it, I think that parents can definitely like some of their kids more than the others, but love? I don't know. I can't imagine that.

amazing links! you have my clicking away. have a great weekend jillian!

National Grilled Cheese Month–you just have the best news about food, don't you? xx

  4. Felicia says:

ahh!! It's national grilled cheese month?!? How did I know this? I think that calls for grilled cheese at least twice a week… or maybe every day? shh…

Fascinating about which foods can outlive me. I love vanilla extract. When baking, I just eyeball the vanilla– if i accidentally put in too much vanilla, it's a good whoops.

Great links and have a wonderful weekend!

I hope that woman's kids are still too young to read. Hopefully by the time they are old enough the hype will have died down.

Surely you may LIKE one of your kids more…but LOVE? Thems fightin' words.

magdalena viktoria – it's pretty unimaginable to me, too. i'm thinking the title of that post was just worded in the wrong way. i hope.

vivian – i'm glad you like them! i always try to keep it interesting around these parts.

gabriella – ha! i actually just stumbled across this little known fact yesterday. i thought, perfect! who doesn't love grilled cheese month?

felicia – i found that pretty fascinating as well. i'm with you on the vanilla. i ALWAYS put more than the recommended amount!

hannah – i believe they are too young to read, thankfully. i know people can't help the way they feel, but i just hope that it doesn't translate into her parenting skills. being raised in that kind of environment is damaging to a child.

    Hi, there!
I came over here from Magdalena's blog, and I'm so happy I did. I like your blog a lot. Don't let anyone make you feel bad for living Prince, Billy Idol or Stone temple pilots- those bands are awesome. Have you heard the new stokes album? Good stuff :)

The shots in this post are so pretty- where do you live? That statue is so beautiful and intense. Is that an angel looking at the earth? Hmm.

Oh, that lady who says she loves one of her kids less than the other is a B*tch. Honestly, her daughter is going to grow up and hear about that, if she hasn't already. I have to kids and while at any given moment I may be having more fun with one than the other, or an appreciative that one if being calmer- I love them the same. Good lord, love can't be measured and I don't know why that woman tried.

    Happy Friday!
    XO,
    Claire

i just got sucked into all of your links. thanks for helping me procrastinate. and wtf on the mom post???

  10. la petite coquine says:

John and I made grilled cheeses with cheddar, ham and Braeburn apple last night, all without a clue that it was grilled cheese month!

As for favoritism among parents, I absolutely think it happens. Maybe you don't love one more (and you can bet that son is going to have a rough time swallowing that blog entry one day), but you sure as hell like one better than the other from time to time!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

awesome links! we were talking about a woman who moved to japan and decided to divorce her husband and leave her children because she decided she didn't want to be a mom in my women & gender studies class. she said she felt pressured to be a mom and it wasn't something she wanted to do herself. it was crazy.

also there was a crazy good grilled cheese restaurant here that my boy and i used to love to go to. but then we realized we could make a ton of them ourselves. american cheese, bacon, and thinly sliced apple is soooo good!

  15. The Many Colours of Happiness says:

I hope you had a great weekend :) Mmm grilled cheese is the best! I can't believe that blog post! I hope my own mother doesn't feel like that!

  16. jillian m. says:

i'm glad so many of you liked the links! that's awesome. :)

courtney – i read a similar story in a magazine article a while ago and couldn't believe it myself. i can understand the pressure and not wanting to cave in to that, but i can't understand just cutting your child our of your life like that. crazy!

claire – thank you for the wonderful compliment! and no, i haven't heard the new strokes album, but i'm excited to hear it. i remember seeing them in concert once a reeeally long time ago and i enjoyed it. i'm heading on over to check out your blog right now…

I always love your NYC pics (even if this one is by your BF). They always make me wish I could visit more often.

Thanks for the links… something to do this afternoon!
